The Road to Intelligence

[Osaka, Japan, January 31, 2020] Veni Shone, president of HiSilicon (Shanghai) Technologies Co., Ltd., offered a glimpse into HiSilicon's vision for an intelligent world during a keynote speech at the Japan IT Week Show today. In the speech, entitled "The Road to Intelligence", Veni Shone described a future in which humans and machines would learn from each other and work together to build a digital, intelligent world. This world of the future will consist of "intelligent individuals" and "intelligent society", and be founded on a "converged intelligent ecosystem". HiSilicon, a global leader in semiconductor design, is committed to working with its partners to build an intelligent world.

Regard the goal of increasing the capabilities of intelligent individuals, Veni Shone revealed that "With the development of digital technologies and bionics, the perception capability of machines will evolve from 'single-modality' to 'multi-modality', data collection can be expanded from voice only to converged voice+video". " At the same time AI capabilities are also indispensable, the convergence of these machine perception capabilities and use of AI will greatly improve the capabilities of machines in data collection, recognition, and understanding, behavior prediction, and feedback in complex environments. This in turn will pave the way for new and more complex applications such as autonomous driving". "Converged perception +AI" is the key business direction.with the use of AI, HiSilicon has already empowered a wide range scenarios, for example "Smart vision", "Smart media", AI-ready machine vision chips allowing cameras to see much more clearly than human beings on rainy days and in low-light night environments.

With regard to intelligent society, Veni Shone stated that intelligent society is not just an organization composed of intelligent individuals, but a diversified organization with rules that connects intelligent individuals and allows information exchanges between them. At present, there are two networks, one for humans and one for things, which will be gradually integrated along with the spread of 5G and Wi-Fi 6 technologies. These two networks and two organizations will be gradually integrated to achieve a unified intelligent society . HiSilicon’s AIoT and home network chips not only support existing technologies such as 2G/3G/4G, NB-IoT, Wi-Fi, optical network, and PLC, but also support future-oriented connection technologies such as 5G and Wi-Fi 6. In addition, with the AI capabilities, HiSilicon is capable to make these scenes possible and ready to build a fully connected, intelligent society.

On converged intelligent ecosystems, Veni Shone expressed that the fragmentation of smart device ecosystems is one of the biggest obstacles facing the transition from intelligent individuals and intelligent society to an intelligent world. Huawei's Harmony OS is capable of solving this and many other problems of smart device ecosystems thanks to diverse features such as flexible decoupling, elastic deployment, hardware cooperation, resource sharing, one-time development for multi-device deployment, multi-device authentication, distributed security, and more. In the future, all HiSilicon chips will natively support Harmony OS, and this ecosystem will be open to all partners.

Veni Shone also added that HiSilicon will remain committed to openness and mutually-beneficial cooperation, and welcomes partners from all industries to join it in enabling smart devices and building an intelligent world.
