HiSilicon Showcases Its College Courses at Huawei HDC 2021

[October 22 to 24] HiSilicon unveiled the college courses that it had developed with HarmonyOS, at the HUAWEI DEVELOPER CONFERENCE 2021 (TOGETHER) on the Songshan Lake campus in Dongguan, Guandong province. HiSilicon is an important partner in the OpenHarmony ecosystem, and the courses it developed integrate theory with abundant hands-on experiences. The courses provide insight on the application scenarios and development trends of IoT and smart vision technologies, and will help pave the way toward an intelligent, all-connected future.

IoT- and AI-Specific Courses That both Educate and Engage with Learners

The IoT Technology and Application course jointly developed by HiSilicon and HarmonyOS provides a broad array of courseware materials and experiment guides. It works seamlessly with the IoT teaching and experiment suite, and includes 11 meticulously-designed experiments, including those related to IoT controls, network protocols, and device-cloud synergy. The HiSpark-WiFi-loT development kit used in the course is powered by the Hi3861 WiFi SoC, which features a high-performance 32-bit microprocessor and operates at speeds of up to 160 MHz, with support for 2.4 GHz, 802.11b/g/n, and 256-node mesh networking. The course also covers content related to CoAP, MQTT, HTTP, and JSON. It provides an in-depth understanding of basic operations and debugging with HiSilicon and HarmonyOS tools, as well as IoT application development methods.

Live demo of HiSilicon IoT Technologies and Applications

The AI Computer Vision course jointly developed by HiSilicon and HarmonyOS works with the AI teaching suite and AI camera development kit, which leverage HiSilicon's formidable Hi3516DV300 AI camera chipset, with: dual-core Cortex-A7, 900 MHz clock speed, NEON acceleration, integrated floating-point unit (FPU), 1.0 TOPS neural network and intelligent computing acceleration engine, up to 5 megapixel camera resolution, and powerful image processing engine (ISP, 3DNR, image enhancement, and more). Developers can gain key insight into AI application development, especially on topics addressing the media subsystem, camera subsystem, NNIE, IVE, and AI CPU. A total of 21 experiments on media processing and AI are designed to help learners master AI application development methods, via HiSilicon and HarmonyOS tools.

HiSilicon showcases intelligent management framework that simulates a recycling station

One of the Most Impressive Demos at HDC 2021

HiSilicon gave a demo at its exhibition booth, which addressed an intelligent management system that simulates the work of an eco-friendly recycling bin within a smart community, demonstrating the powerful functions and enriching interactions offered by the course. Developers are able to open and close trash cans, as well as a range of other AI functions, from the convenience of their phones. The control process is simple: Open the HarmonyOS app developed based on Java to detect the AI camera. After connecting the camera, you can use the app to view the real-time preview image sent by the camera, control the trash can, and manage exceptions through the recording and snapshot features. You can also touch the AI button to implement various AI application scenarios.

AI application scenario 1: AI-based waste classification. When you open the app that was developed based on JavaScript, you'll notice that the real-time video data collected by the camera is displayed on the screen. From there, select AI waste classification on the UI, and place objects to identify under the camera. Once the camera automatically identifies the waste type, it will broadcast the result and open the corresponding trash can.

AI application scenario 2: Automatic controls for trash cans, with AI gesture recognition. For example, gesture 1 opens or closes the first trash can. Gestures 2, 3, and 4 control the second, third, and fourth trash cans, respectively. Opening your palm opens the trash cans, and closing your fist closes the trash cans.

AI application scenario 3: AI face detection, which can be used to collect traffic data from public places, such as smart communities, and implement clock-in and clock-out function. Real-time monitoring data is displayed on the screen.
